The “Land of Lincoln” and the heart of America, Illinois prides itself on both its central location and its representation as the cultural center of the country. The state has everything from small towns and farms to big cities. Illinois is the most populous and demographically diverse Midwestern state and the fifth greatest populated state in the nation.

With Chicago in the northeast, nearly 66 percent of the population resides in this corner of the state comprising the metropolitan area known as Chicagoland. One in four Illinois residents lives within the city of Chicago itself. Chicago and its surrounding communities are home to a variety of unique attractions: World-class museums, championship golf courses, historic downtown districts, diverse shopping opportunities, scenic nature areas, and family-friendly venues including the John G. Shedd Aquarium and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Within Illinois, the US Bureau of the Census currently lists seven other cities with populations of over 100,000. Two of the most notable places to live outside of Chicago are Naperville and Bolingbrook.  Naperville, population 142,900, has made Money Magazine’s Best Places list three times in a row. The walkable downtown area is packed with restaurants and shops. Naperville's public library is ranked the best in the nation among small cities by Hennen's American Public Library Ratings. Bolingbrook is one of the few places in Illinois that can go by the name “village”, with a population of only 70,000. It is a relatively new suburb of Chicago which continues to grow. From small to big, farmland to bustling metropolis, Illinois has it all.
