Lithonia, Georgia is a suburb of Atlanta, approximately 18 miles to the east of Atlanta. The city is within DeKalb County. It is a very inviting place to live that offers proximity to the offerings of a major American city. The city limits only extend to about a one mile diameter. As of the year 2000, Lithonia’s population was about 2,000 and the median home price was about $82,000.

The city is known as the city of granite because it is in an area of large granite deposits, and because of its proximity to a granite dome called Stone Mountain. The name of the city is said to be derived from the Greek words Litho meaning rock and Onia meaning place.

A few famous Lithonia residents have included Senator Max Cleland and country singer Brenda Lee. The Lithonia Public Library was founded in 1907 and is considered the oldest in DeKalb County. A summer concert series is sponsored by Lithonia in a downtown amphitheatre. Luther Rice Seminary is located in Lithonia, and there are a number of other colleges within a 20 mile radius.

There are a limited number of homes available on the Lithonia real estate listings, due to the small size of the city. However the offerings include an excellent selection of new homes, townhomes, and condominiums, as well as established homes.
