The third-largest city in Arizona, Mesa has a larger population than even well-known cities like St. Louis and Miami. Despite its booming growth and a population of over 440,000 people, Mesa has maintained its quiet, “bedroom-community” atmosphere.

Mesa’s real estate listings are diverse: the city’s realtors and real estate agents can show you everything from expensive homes, condominiums, and town homes to mobile homes, with the median real estate value at $254,751 for a home as of 2004. Mesa has a “low-key” feel in terms of both ambiance and architecture. There is a small downtown area, and most of the city’s buildings are only one or two stories. There are several retirement communities in the city, as well as one of the oldest temples operated in the United States by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mesa is approximately one-tenth Mormon.

Mesa has plenty of opportunities for art and culture, including the new Mesa Arts Center, designed as a 212,775 square foot performing arts, visual arts and art education hub for the entire state of Arizona. There are also several museums, including the Arizona Museum for Youth, Commemorative Air Force Museum, Mesa Historical Society and Museum, Mesa Southwest Museum, and Sirrine House. The city’s largest employers include Mesa Public Schools, Banner Health System, Boeing, the City of Mesa, AT&T, and Wal-Mart.
