Those of us unfamiliar with North Carolina might say “Raleigh-Durham” as if it were one city. In fact, the two are 20 miles apart and are separate and distinct municipalities. Yet, they boast many of the same advantages in terms of buying a home and settling in the “Tar-heel State.” In the northeastern region of North Carolina sits its capital city of Raleigh. Boasting a good housing market and a strong economy, this city offers home owners an average price of $220,000 on a single family residence. A major airport is conveniently located, and beautiful beaches and stunning mountains are only 2 ½ half hours away.

The University of North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Duke are all located here. These academic institutions afford opportunities to students and the community, including the renowned Duke University Medical Center. It is the largest employer in Durham and provides first-class treatment services. One of Durham’s claims to fame is that it has a doctor per capita ratio five times the national average.
Once associated primarily with tobacco farms, Durham also offers thousands of square feet of green space. Duke Forest, in fact, is comprised of nearly 8,000 acres, including 30 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails.
