Salt Lake City is affectionately known as the “Crossroads of the West” and with good reason. Easy to access by plane, train, and car, this capital city of Utah and its surrounding areas has a population of one million people.

As with any other major U.S. city, Salt Lake has distinct neighborhoods and districts. Property values are generally higher on the east side of town, due in large part to the fact that this section enjoys spectacular views from its higher elevation. The west side, where the railroad was originally built, comprises more affordable housing and has evolved from its roots as a working class neighborhood to a more upscale region that attracts young professionals.

A vibrant downtown section is rich with urban loft living and upscale condominiums, while just northeast of downtown is the Avenues, a historical district with many Victorian era homes. Other neighborhoods like the 9th and 9th and 15th and 15th (named after the locations of their intersections) are friendly to foot traffic and home to art galleries, sidewalk cafes, salons, and retail stores.

With a median age of 30, Salt Lake is a young, energetic city. Contrary to the perception that everyone here is Mormon, this is an area that boasts of a religiously diverse population. As host to the 2002 Winter Olympics, Salt Lake City had the opportunity to showcase its varied cultural activities, along with breathtaking landscape and perfect conditions for winter sports.
